Seven communities have taken part in the OpenLV project with the aim of using data from local substations to engage residents in energy issues. OpenLV’s Community Involvement video looks at how community organisations have interacted with OpenLV data.

Sam Rossi Ashton, Western Power Distribution’s OpenLV Project Manager, says that the OpenLV platform has empowered communities by helping them to understand their energy consumption.

Bridget Newbery from CSE explains how there were 60 responses to be part of the project, mainly from community energy groups. Local communities want data to understand more about what’s going on in their local area, according to Ky Hoare from Regen.

The amount of energy that’s being produced by solar farms is shown by an app that’s been developed as part of the OpenLV project – Ray Holland from Yealm Community Group provides more details.

The Community Involvement video also features Simon Earland from Tamar Energy Community, Tony Kerr from Marshfield Energy Group and Rob Sealey from Rooftop Housing Group.

More videos are to follow, and two free webinars are taking place to share learning from the OpenLV project. The first webinar – taking place at 2pm on Tuesday 17 November – looks at ‘Electricity Networks & Distributed Intelligence’, when the technical benefits of distributed intelligence platforms will be explained, such as the LV-CAP™ technology trialled in this project. Click here to find out more and to register for the free webinar.

Details about registration for the second webinar will be released soon.
